Irish Heather Honey vs Blossom Honey: What Is the Difference?
On this site, “blossom” means our mixed summer harvest and “heather” means our autumn heather-season honey. It does not mean that heather honey comes from a plant without flowers.
Both begin with flowers
Heather flowers provide nectar, so heather honey is botanically also blossom (floral) honey. In everyday product naming, a producer may call a mixed summer honey “blossom” to distinguish it from a later heather harvest. The EU honey directive describes blossom or nectar honey as honey obtained from plant nectar; it does not turn heather into a separate non-floral category.
Our two seasonal varieties
Connemara Blossom Honey is our light, golden summer variety, from bees foraging among native local flowers. The producer describes harvest around late July or early August. Connemara Heather Honey is the richer, aromatic autumn variety associated with Connemara heather. These are descriptions of our products, not lab-certified single-flower analyses. Weather and forage can change the character of any batch.
